Voice Gecko — Terms of Service

Effective date:

Who we are: Social Freak Limited, trading as “Voice Gecko” (“Voice Gecko”, “we”, “us”, “our”). Registered in England & Wales. Company number: 14659411..

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Social Freak Limited (trading as Voice Gecko). They govern your access to and use of our websites, apps, APIs and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account, subscribing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, do not use the Service.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights (for example, under UK consumer law).

1) What Voice Gecko does

Voice Gecko converts audio into text dictations on your device using local speech models, and provides tools to manage those dictations locally. By default, transcripts and dictionary words stay on your computer and are not uploaded to Voice Gecko servers. Optional Support accounts store billing and account identifiers only — not your dictation content.

A separate Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data (UK GDPR). Until that’s published, the Security Policy on our site describes our technical approach to protecting data.

23) Contact us

  • Support: support@voicegecko.dev
  • Legal: legal@voicegecko.dev
  • Privacy (data rights): privacy@voicegecko.dev
  • Security: security@voicegecko.dev

22) Governing law and venue

These Terms and any dispute or claim (contractual or non-contractual) are governed by the laws of England and Wales. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you’re a consumer resident outside the UK, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in your local courts under mandatory local law.

21) Severability and no waiver

If a part of these Terms is invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a term isn’t a waiver of our rights.

20) Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our written consent. We may assign or transfer them (for example, in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets).

19) Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll post the new Terms and update the “Effective date.” Changes take effect when posted (or on a stated future date). If you continue using the Service after changes take effect, you agree to the updated Terms.

18) Force majeure

We aren’t responsible for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control (for example, internet/provider outages, DDoS, power failures, natural disasters, war, strikes, new regulations).

17) Export controls and sanctions

You must comply with applicable export control and sanctions laws. You may not use the Service if you are subject to UK, EU, US or other relevant sanctions.

16) Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Voice Gecko, its directors, employees and contractors from claims and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your User Content; (b) your use of the Service; or (c) your breach of these Terms or applicable law.

15) Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses (including lost profits, revenues, data or goodwill).
  • Our total liability for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid to us for the Service in that period.
  • We do not exclude or limit liability where the law does not allow it (for example, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

14) Warranties and disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We don’t make promises about specific results, error-free operation, or that the Service will always be secure or available. We disclaim all implied warranties (merchantability, fitness for purpose, non-infringement) to the fullest extent permitted by law.

13) Data protection (summary)

We’re a UK company and follow UK GDPR. We act as:

  • a controller for account, billing, support, and optional analytics related to the hosted website and Support product, and
  • not a processor of desktop dictation text or dictionary words — those stay on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.

We use reputable providers and encrypt data in transit and at rest. See our Security Policy for technical controls. A full Privacy Policy will explain your rights (access, deletion, portability) and how to exercise them via privacy@voicegecko.dev.

12) Publicity

Unless you tell us not to, you allow us to use your name and logo to identify you as a customer on our website and marketing materials. You can opt out by emailing legal@voicegecko.dev.

11) Feedback

If you send us ideas or suggestions, you agree we can use them without restriction or payment.

9) Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if:

  • you breach these Terms;
  • you don’t pay fees on time;
  • your use creates legal, security or operational risk; or
  • we are required to by law or by a court/authority.

If your account is terminated, your right to use the Service ends. We may delete your User Content in line with our retention practices, subject to legal requirements. You can cancel at any time to stop future renewals (no refunds for the current period).

8) Service availability, changes and support

Availability. We aim to keep the Service available, but no specific uptime is promised. Outages and maintenance happen. Keep your own backups of important data.

Changes. We may add, change, or remove features, or offer beta/early access features that may be unstable. We may discontinue parts of the Service.

Support. When you contact support, you allow us to access your account if necessary to help you. Ask us if you want help without account access and we’ll try to accommodate.

Safety. We may monitor for abuse and security issues and take steps to protect the Service and users.

7) Third-party services

You can choose to connect third-party apps or services. If you do, you allow us to share the data needed to make that integration work. Their use of your data is governed by their terms and privacy policies, not ours. We’re not responsible for third-party services.

We also use reputable cloud and SaaS providers (for example, hosting and payments). Providers may change over time.

6) Our intellectual property

Everything we create or provide—software, website, designs, documentation, trademarks and logos (“Our Content”)—is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use Our Content solely to access and use the Service under these Terms. You may not use our branding without written permission.

If we provide downloadable tools or SDKs for the Service, you may use them while you comply with these Terms. Separately, open-source components of Voice Gecko are licensed under MIT (see the project LICENSE).

5) Your content and our rights to operate the Service

5.1 Ownership

You own the content you create with Voice Gecko, including dictation text and dictionary words stored on your device (“User Content”). Desktop User Content stays on your computer and is not uploaded to Voice Gecko servers. If you contact support or send optional feedback, you may choose to share limited information with us.

5.2 Licence to run the Service

For User Content that remains on your device, no licence to Voice Gecko is required. If you voluntarily send us content (for example feedback or support attachments), you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, process, transmit, display and back up that material only as needed to provide, maintain, protect and improve the Service.

5.3 Analytics and improvements

We may use aggregated or de-identified data from your use (not identifiable to you) to operate, analyse, and improve the Service, including quality, performance and features.

5.4 AI/ML

We do not use your User Content to train generalised AI models without your explicit opt-in.

5.5 Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the legality of your User Content (e.g., you have consent to record; you’re not creating infringing materials). If we receive a credible complaint about content you voluntarily shared with us, we may remove or refuse to process it, or restrict access where required.

4) What you can and can’t do (acceptable use)

You agree not to:

  • Break the law, infringe IP rights, or violate others’ privacy.
  • Upload illegal, harmful, or abusive content.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to access the Service’s source code except where allowed by law.
  • Bypass security or access controls, interfere with the Service, or introduce malware.
  • Scrape, crawl, or harvest data except via our documented API and rate limits.
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with Voice Gecko.
  • Use the Service for high-risk activities where failure could lead to death, personal injury, or severe environmental damage.

We may throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts that harm the Service or other users.

3) Free use, optional Support, billing and taxes

Free & open source. Voice Gecko is free to use with the full product and no usage caps. The software is offered under the MIT license. Paying is never required to use the hosted Service’s core features.

Optional Support. You may choose an optional Support contribution (currently billed monthly via our payment processor). Support is a voluntary way to fund development. Free and Support provide the same product features.

Auto-renewal. If you start Support, it renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before renewal. You authorise us (or our payment processor) to take payment using your chosen method. You can cancel Support anytime from your account billing settings; canceling does not remove access to the free product.

Billing issues & refunds. Support is a voluntary contribution. Fees are generally non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. If something went wrong with billing, contact support@voicegecko.dev and we will make it right where appropriate.

Price changes. We may change Support pricing. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice before your next renewal. If you keep Support after the change takes effect, you accept the new price. You may cancel before renewal if you do not agree.

Taxes. Fees are exclusive of VAT and other taxes. We’ll add and collect taxes where required.

Your details. If you pay for Support, you must keep your billing details accurate and current. Failure to pay may end Support; you retain access to the free product.

UK/EU consumers: you may have a 14-day right to cancel certain online purchases. Because Support is a digital contribution processed immediately, we ask for your express consent to start now. By doing so you may lose the right to change your mind for the current period under those rules. You can still cancel future renewals at any time before renewal.

2) Who can use Voice Gecko

Age. You must be 16+.

Account info. Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

Your security. Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for activity on your account. Tell us quickly at support@voicegecko.dev if you suspect unauthorised access.

Human sign-up. No bots or automated sign-ups.

Lawful use only. You’re responsible for complying with laws that apply to your use (e.g., copyright, recording consent, data protection).

If you’re using the Service for a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that company. “You” then means that company.
